The WIMA Austria Halloween Tour
It was one of those nights in October that could almost be described as mystical in Vienna. The weather was unusually mild, almost too friendly for a cemetery tour. But that’s exactly what made the atmosphere even more special for us WIMA girls. Jackets buttoned up, helmets safely stowed away – and of course we had decorated our bikes with the appropriate accessories. A few spooky spiders, fluttering skeletons and even cobwebs adorned our bikes and provided the first laughs as we set off. Scary factor: check! Off we went on our evening tour to Vienna’s most fascinating resting places.
First stop: Evangelical cemetery Matzleinsdorfer Platz
As soon as we arrived at the Protestant cemetery, we realised that we weren’t the only night owls. Our ‘decorated’ motorbikes naturally attracted curious glances, and some people probably wondered who these creepy bikers were who ventured out into the darkness. One thing was certain: the cemetery has stories in store for the future that it doesn’t tell everyone.
Gate 2 at the Central Cemetery: Party mood among the dead
The second stop was Gate 2 of the Central Cemetery, and what can we say – the atmosphere there was … let’s say surprisingly lively! It almost seemed as if the cemetery had turned into a kind of party mile. People were laughing, talking and seemed to simply ignore the gloomy aura of the place.
We felt like we were in good company and swapped stories about previous rides. Our decorated bikes were a hit and attracted all kinds of interested glances. Who would have thought that a visit to a cemetery could be so entertaining?
The cemetery of the nameless: A moment of silence
The last stop on our tour took us to the cemetery of the nameless – a small, almost hidden gem that is touching and melancholy in its own way. Here, each of us felt the unique atmosphere of this place. Unlike the previous cemeteries, the mood here was serious and solemn. We paused for a moment, listened to the light wind blowing through the trees and remembered those who were laid to rest here. The only disturbance was the concrete agitator right next door, which tirelessly disturbed the idyll. Nevertheless, we managed to find a moment of silence that moved us all deeply.
Finish at the Gasthof Pistauer
After this special experience, we ended the evening in a cosy atmosphere at Gasthof Pistauer. The inn was warm and inviting – just what we needed after our mystical tour of the cemetery. Over a good meal and in good company, we laughed and reminisced about the evening. The stories of the night were shared, the funniest moments captured, and we were already secretly planning our next outing together.
Conclusion: This cemetery tour was everything – touching, funny and full of unexpected encounters. Vienna showed us once again that the city is alive even in cemeteries. An evening that we will certainly not soon forget!
