4 at a stroke

We wake up at 7 a.m., get up and have breakfast, which is now routine. The diary is filled in and the route for today’s round is determined and transferred to the navigation system. The plan is Brünig and Susten, but actually the combination Brünig-Susten-Furka-Grimsel-Brünig is the obvious choice, hmmm 😉

At 15:30 we are supposed to be back for the joint WIMA group photo, so we have to leave soon. Three of us set off (Sabine, Astrid and me). After the Brünig we stop briefly at a petrol station.

Versya’s 1-cylinder takes its oil toll and all the reserves we took with us have been used up in the meantime, so we have to get some more before the turbulent ride over the passes starts. The route over the Susten accompanies us with wonderful views of the glaciers and so we stop several times for photos.

At the pass itself, we put the WIMA sticker on the plate and continue on our way. As suspected, the motorway is already jammed upfront ot the St Gotthard Tunnel, but we follow the parallel federal road and thus have no obstruction. At the gallery around the Devil’s Bridge there is a bit of a crawl, but this is solved with our hook towards Furka. Before the serpentines begin, we stop in the last village and settle down in a Töff Bistro. There we fortify ourselves with snacks (sweets and bruschetta – both super cool) before heading up the hairpin bends. As it is a working day, there is much less traffic and we enjoy the ascent.

In addition to the passport photo, there is also a stop with a view of the Grimsel (including an enchanting panorama) and we leave the Belvedere to the left again (sic). Then we descend to the starting point of the Grimsel pass road, up and straight back down again. When we arrive at the bottom – already dizzy from the many bends – we stop at the Reichenbach Falls (Well, who does that mean something to you?) for a photo and to fill up the tank once again.

All this works out perfectly, and so we are back in camp at 15:10, ufff. At 15:30 the photo shoot begins, which is carried out incl. drone, we are all excited about the pictures. After that it is time to change for the obligatory WIMA-Austria group photo.

As the terrain is very extensive and Whatsapp is rather inactive (due to the high roaming costs in Switzerland), the message about the earlier start of the closing ceremony does not reach everyone in time. The Swiss women get their well-deserved recognition for the successful handling of the rally, then there are auctions of Australian koala and kangaroo costumes, printed samples from WIMA International Merchandising, where Sabine excels as a perfect auctioneer. The proceeds from the auctions are donated to various WIMA International charities.

Weather: sunny and relatively warm, morning and evening very cool.

Route: approx. 300 km
