Ski weekend March 7-13, 2024, Hinterstoder
Eight Wima women quickly decided to book the “Roman” vacation home in Hinterstoder, Upper Austria, in October 2023.
Snow or no snow – this question cannot be answered this early anyway, so we also consider tobogganing, snowshoeing or walking to be on the safe side, but on March 7th the snow conditions are good, so five of us pack our skis. Anneliese, Gea and I declare ourselves to be hikers, because fresh air, mountains and nature are always good for a long weekend.
Astrid has made a good choice of accommodation. The spacious house boasts an idyllic, quiet location by the river, is fully equipped and we can move into four bedrooms. In the evening, a fire crackles in the tiled stove and we can eat, chat and play games at two tables without being crowded. The kitchen is open to the living room, and there are two bathrooms and two toilets.
On the first evening, we dine excellently in the “Stoda” restaurant, opposite the cable car valley station, just a 10-minute walk from the accommodation. On the other two evenings, however, we cooked our own meals in the house. Worried that we would go hungry, we brought lots of food and provisions with us. Even the house ants get their fill.
On March 8 and 9, we take the gondola up to the Huttererböden. Wonderful piste conditions, blue skies, bright sunshine, a picture-book winter! In addition to the fun on the slopes, our five skiers enjoy the fun of a mountain hut and an alpine snack, while the three pedestrians in the (snow-free) valley enjoy the overwhelmingly beautiful panorama of the Schiederweiher pond in front of the Großer Priel and the Spitzmauer reflected in the water. The “Most Beautiful Place in Austria 2018/19” can be hiked to in just over an hour from the “Roman” house. The way back takes us unexpectedly to the café-pastry shop in the village center, where we can replenish our energy reserves.
From March 8 to 9, there’s a visit from the men. Chris’ son Martin raises the male quota, bravely joins the ladies’ round and acts as a joker in the evening Trivial Pursuit.
Once again, the three days away are over far too quickly. Maybe we’ll try again next year?
